VARIOUS METHODS OF STUDYING THE BIBLE
TOPICAL STUDY To perform a Topical Study of the Scriptures, begin with writing down a list of your favorite topics, including all topics that are personally important to your life. EXAMPLES OF TOPICAL STUDY
You can look up the phrase Jesus loved in a Bible Concordance or use an online Program like the one
below. Click on the Gospelcom.net graphic and when a new page opens type in: Jesus loved
Now type the phrase forgiveness in the search box. In these two examples of a Topical Study, you have experienced a great deal of insight and have seen the value of the Topical Study method. It is best to carefully read all Scriptures on the same topic before forming permanent opinions on any Topic. MORE EXAMPLES OF TOPICAL STUDY

'For no matter how many promises GOD has made, they are "Yes" in CHRIST. And so through HIM the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of GOD." 2 Corinthians 1:20

VERSE STUDY
It is important to memorize and meditate upon various Bible chapters or verses for your spiritual and personal benefit. EXAMPLE OF MEMORIZING THE SCRIPTURE
John 3:16
"For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS One and Only Son, that whoever believes in HIM shall not perish but have eternal life."
|
Begin with writing this verse by hand on a 2X3 card. Keep this verse with you and read the verse over many times a day until you can quote it by memory. Once you have memorized the Scripture it will remain in your heart forever. Once you memorize Scripture they will always there when I need them. There will come times in your life when you will not have opportunity to go to your Bible and look up a Scripture in an emergency. Select other verses like the one below that appeal to you and follow this same pattern.
1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has seized me except what is common to man. And GOD is faithful; HE will not let me be tempted beyond what I can bear. But when I am tempted, HE will also provide a way out so that I can stand up under it."

EXAMPLE OF MEDITATING ON THE SCRIPTURE Once you have memorized a verse, begin to think in the following ways:
1), Did it originate from the Old or the New Testament? 2). The Author and their background. (King, pauper, educated. ignorant, etc.) 3). History. (peacetime, wartime, famine, plenty, etc.) Using these kinds of methods, you can determine many things about the
interpretation of individual chapters and verses. For example, the Old Testament Scriptures were written before JESUS came to earth, and the New Testament after HE ascended to the FATHER. Even facts as simple as these can help you properly interpret what you have read. |
