House calls is a term that is not very familiar in this generation. Your Grandparents used to tell stories about the days when their doctor made house calls when someone in the family was ill. In order to have a doctor make a house call today, you would have to either live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, or have a great deal of money for a private doctor. Generally, doctors no longer make house calls because their medical practices have been moved to clinics and hospitals. All their patients are required to come to their clinic during business hours or the hospital Emergency Room after hours if they are in need of emergency help. The concept of the small town doctor has gone the way of necessity. In a clinic, a nurse is responsible for preparation tests, asking the appropriate questions, and taking a patient into a room to wait to see the doctor. This process allows the doctor to see a great number of patients in a single day, and the dollars keep rolling in. While the majority of doctors are very polite and caring individuals and genuinely desire to help their sick patients, there happens to be a growing number of doctors that believe that they best method of seeing patients for treatment is the hurry up plan. Such a doctor does not waste their time answering the questions of their patients. Instead, they hurry away and see their next patient, and the dollars keep rolling in. I ask that you cooperate with me in this one thing - join me on page 2. See you there! |
